Air Conditioning Unit Not Working? Make these simple checks before calling a service engineer...

Symptoms

Check

The air conditioner cannot be operated.

Is the power supply turned on, indoors and outdoors?

Is the fuse blown?

Is the timer set to off?

Is the trip switched off?

Are the batteries exhausted?

Unit is not cooling or heating sufficiently.

Is the mode set to cool or heat?

Is the temperature set correctly?

Is the air filter dirty?

Is the outlet of the outdoor unit blocked off?

 No display on remote controller screen.

Are the batteries exhausted?

Is the polarity of the batteries correct?

The following are all normal to the daily operation of your air conditioner and are not cause for concern...

  • The air conditioner will not operate for 3 minutes after restart
  • Cracking sound is heard due to expansion of materials
  • The fan stops for a short while in dry mode
  • The unit makes a sound like water flowing
  • The air flow vane changes direction on its own sometimes
  • Water leaks from the outdoor unit
  • In heating mode the unit does not blow out air as quickly as when cooling
  • In heating the unit stops operating for about 10 minutes
  • On occasion a hissing sound comes from the unit, when unit is set to cooling or heating
  • When the unit has achieved temperature it will recycle the air until required to heat or cool again
